The SAFE Organization is proud to announce the successful completion of the WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) project in Dam Darah village, Enjil District, Herat Province. This vital project aimed to improve sanitation services for communities affected by the recent earthquake, reducing health risks and supporting a healthier lifestyle for residents.

Project Highlights

  • Scope: Construction of 21 latrine units and 1 bathroom for 30 families.
  • Beneficiaries: Over 210 individuals, including men, women, and children, now have access to proper sanitation facilities.
  • Objectives:
    1. Improving Public Health: Reducing diseases like diarrhea and other waterborne illnesses caused by poor sanitation.
    2. Empowering Communities: Providing safe and private spaces, particularly benefiting women and children.
    3. Environmental Protection: Preventing contamination of local water sources and the environment.
    4. Enhancing Social Cohesion: Encouraging community involvement in maintaining facilities.

Activities Undertaken

  1. Collaboration: Close coordination with donors, government authorities, and community leaders to ensure smooth project execution.
  2. Field Visits: Identifying community needs and educating residents on how to use the facilities.
  3. Hygiene Kit Distribution: Providing essential hygiene items to improve family health.
  4. Monitoring and Evaluation: Ensuring the quality of work and sustainability of the constructed facilities.

Challenges and Mitigations

  • Mitigation Measures: Involving community leaders in the beneficiary selection process and providing training to ensure proper use and maintenance of facilities.
